Gutemberg Fonseca endorses Douglas Ruas for Rio de Janeiro government

Gutemberg Fonseca, a candidate for federal deputy representing the PL party, has announced his support for Douglas Ruas in the race for the Rio de Janeiro state government. Fonseca stated that Eduardo Paes has ‘reached his ceiling’ after four terms as Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, arguing that Paes's administrative experience no longer guarantees renewal for the state.

During an interview, Fonseca outlined several policy priorities, including public security, fiscal responsibility, and the protection of victims of digital scams and online betting. Regarding security, he criticized the creation of a new Municipal Force, suggesting instead that resources should be directed toward the training, equipment, and arming of the existing Municipal Guard.

Fonseca also advocated for the modernization of the Consumer Defense Code to address contemporary challenges such as digital banking, online shopping, and fraud via social media and messaging apps. He proposed that digital platforms and telecommunications operators be held accountable for failing to prevent fraudulent activities.
