Guwahati and Chicago Face Urban Flooding as Drainage Systems Fail

Heavy night rain in Guwahati, India, left several neighborhoods—including Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Rajgarh, Wireless, Hatigaon, Kahilipara and Panjabari—under knee‑deep water. Residents were forced to evacuate by the State Disaster Response Force, and many complained that repeated desilting projects have not prevented the recurring floods.

In Chicago, United States, residents of the Brainerd neighborhood reported a street that remained water‑logged for weeks after storms. They blamed clogged catch basins and said they had to clear debris themselves. After an ABC7 investigation, city crews cleaned the basins, improving the situation, but locals say a permanent drainage solution is still needed.
