Guwahati institutions advance education and transport policy

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, IIM Kashipur and the National University of Singapore have created a game‑theoretic framework to integrate informal transport services—such as autorickshaws, minibuses and vans—into mainstream urban traffic management. The model evaluates three policy options: congestion pricing for private vehicles, financial assistance to informal operators and subsidies for users, and concludes that a combination of pricing and subsidies can best reduce congestion and improve service quality. Findings were published in the journal Transportation Research Part A.

The Indian Institute of Management Guwahati began its first academic session, enrolling 52 MBA students at its temporary campus in Bongora. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the launch as a historic moment for Assam and the Northeast, while urging greater local representation in premier institutions. The permanent 189‑acre campus is slated for completion within three years.
