Guwahati marks India’s 80th Independence Day with ceremonies and flood relief plans
India’s 80th Independence Day was marked by various commemorative events in Guwahati, Assam. At the Assam Legislative Assembly complex, Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass unfurled the national flag, accompanied by a drone carrying the Tricolour and a rendition of the National Anthem.
In Dighalipukhuri, the Air Force Band performed at the War Memorial, featuring patriotic and martial music to honor the sacrifices of India’s armed forces. The event was attended by military personnel, civil dignitaries, and local residents, including schoolchildren and NCC cadets.
Alongside the celebrations, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a rehabilitation plan for families impacted by recent floods. The plan includes digital damage assessments to expedite reconstruction, assistance for repairing homes and livestock, and a loan repayment moratorium to support recovery efforts.
