Guwahati murder suspect dies after jumping from police vehicle

Ramanuj Goswami, the suspect accused of murdering his wife and decapitating her, died on Monday morning after jumping from a police vehicle in Guwahati, Assam.

According to police, the incident occurred near Narkasur Hill while officers were transporting Goswami from the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) back to the Hatigaon police station following a medical examination. Goswami reportedly attempted to escape by jumping from the moving vehicle, causing him to fall into a deep ravine.

He sustained severe head injuries from the fall and was rushed to GMCH, where he was pronounced dead. Hospital officials noted that there were no visible gunshot wounds on the body. Goswami had previously surrendered to authorities, confessing to the murder of his wife, Riya Talukdar. The victim's head had been discovered inside a refrigerator. A magisterial inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances of the death in custody.
