Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta receives national award

Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta has been selected for the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak 2026, an honor from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Mahanta, an Inspector General of Police and head of the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF), is among 19 Assam Police personnel recognized for excellence in special operations, investigation, intelligence, and forensic science.

Mahanta’s recognition follows significant leadership roles, including heading the STF during the March 2024 arrest of suspected ISIS India chief Haris Ajmal Farooqui and his associate Anurag Singh. Since its revival in March 2023, the STF has conducted operations against extremist networks, including Maoists and the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), and has investigated the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) network.

Additionally, Mahanta has overseen major anti-narcotics efforts. Under his leadership, the Guwahati police seized narcotics valued at approximately Rs 400 crore over 11 months. The STF has also recovered substantial quantities of illegal substances, including over 59 kg of heroin, nearly four tonnes of ganja, and large volumes of psychotropic tablets and banned cough syrup.
