Guwahati woman dies during IVF treatment amid negligence allegations

The family of Liza Phukan Koch has alleged medical negligence following her death during IVF treatment at the Indira IVF Centre in Lachit Nagar, Guwahati. The deceased had been undergoing treatment at the private facility since May.

According to the family, Phukan Koch developed vomiting and diarrhea after taking a prescribed tablet on the night of September 19. They claim her condition worsened overnight, but the nurse on duty failed to provide adequate medical attention. Relatives eventually transported her to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead.

In addition to allegations of improper care and delayed attention, the family raised concerns regarding treatment costs and inconsistent medical information. They reported paying Rs 3 lakh and being asked for an additional Rs 3 lakh, and noted conflicting reports regarding her test results. A complaint has been filed at the Panbazar Police Station, and an investigation into the circumstances of her death is underway.
