Guyana adjusts sports schedule to prepare for 2027 CARIFTA Games

Guyana is rescheduling its major youth sporting events to better prepare athletes for the 2027 CARIFTA Games, which the country will host for the first time. Minister of Education Sonia Parag announced that the Interschools Games will now take place in October, leading into the National Secondary School Championship Games scheduled for March 3–5, 2027.

This new timeline is intended to align student-athletes with the CARIFTA Games, which will be held during Easter 2027. The National Secondary School Championship Games will be hosted at the Bayrock facility in Linden, a move aimed at increasing access to sporting opportunities for young athletes in the mining town.

Minister Parag noted that these competitions serve as a pathway for students to advance their sporting careers and secure educational scholarships through athletic performance.
