Guyana and UN release stamp marking 60 years of partnership

The government of Guyana and the United Nations have unveiled a commemorative postal stamp to mark the 60th anniversary of Guyana’s membership in the UN. The stamp was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UN Country Team in Georgetown, and the Guyana Post Office Corporation.

George Talbot, Guyana’s Ambassador to CARICOM, stated that the membership reflects a long-standing commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter. He noted that Guyanese representatives have held several senior roles within the UN system over the last six decades, including positions such as President of the General Assembly and Judge of the International Court of Justice.

Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator Katy Thompson described the stamp as a tribute to six decades of cooperation focused on peace, human rights, and sustainable development. The stamp design features a map of Guyana alongside the official UN emblem.
