Guyana and US discuss energy, technology, and infrastructure investment

Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali met with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in Washington to discuss expanding American investment in Guyana. The talks focused on several key sectors, including oil and gas exploration, infrastructure development, agriculture, and housing.

Both officials explored opportunities to establish Guyana as a regional hub for data centers and artificial intelligence. President Ali noted that these technological investments could strengthen the country’s position in the digital economy and create jobs for local professionals.

Addressing concerns regarding national sovereignty, President Ali stated that the relationship with the United States is a partnership based on mutual interest and respect rather than an attempt at US control. He emphasized that Guyana is working with Washington as a sovereign state to bolster regional security and economic development.
