Guyana announces major agricultural and fisheries investments
Guyana’s Ministry of Agriculture has announced several investments aimed at boosting the country’s agricultural and fisheries sectors. In Sheet Anchor, East Canje, an $80 million upgrade is planned for the local fisheries facility. The project includes the construction of a shed, fencing, a landing site, and washroom facilities to improve operational conditions and security for fisherfolk. Work is scheduled to begin following the completion of revetment works by the Ministry of Public Works.
In Region One, Minister Zulfikar Mustapha commissioned $230 million worth of equipment in Kumaka, including a pontoon and two excavators. Additionally, two tractors were provided to the villages of Manawarin-Arawansa and Burahara to support community development. These investments are part of a national plan to restore the region’s productive capacity, specifically targeting spice production. The Minister also announced support for agricultural education, including the provision of livestock to assist with practical studies at local schools.
