Guyana announces model village works and new community facility

Development works are set to begin within a month to transform La Parfaite Harmonie in Region Three into a model village. Minister of Housing Collin Croal announced that the initial phase will focus on drainage improvements to mitigate flooding, followed by the installation of lighting, hardened road shoulders, fire hydrants, security cameras, and improvements to public spaces.

La Parfaite Harmonie is one of 23 communities selected for this pilot initiative. The project builds upon the Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme (AHUAP), which is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Additionally, a new $180 million community facility was commissioned in Onderneeming, Region Three. The facility is designed to provide space for recreation, youth skill-building, and social activities. The project was handed over to the Malgre Tout/Meer Zorgen Neighbourhood Democratic Council as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions and infrastructure in low-income areas.
