Guyana Attorney General Accuses Opposition of Exploiting MV Barima Tragedy

Attorney General Anil Nandlall said opposition politicians were using the MV Barima disaster to advance their own political agenda. He alleged they sent representatives to the search‑and‑recovery zone, operated unauthorized drones, and filmed grieving families, turning the operation into a media spectacle. Nandlall criticized opposition MPs for laughing, dancing and chanting in the National Assembly, describing the session as an "indecent, vulgar melee" rather than a solemn tribute to the victims. He called for the Public Works Minister Juan Edghill and MARAD minister Deodat Indar to step aside and urged the opposition to focus on accountability rather than political point‑scoring.
