Guyana attracts global investment amid rapid economic growth
Guyana is experiencing rapid economic expansion, characterized by the IMF projecting growth rates of approximately 23% in 2026 and 21% in 2027. In response to this trajectory, global financial institution Citi has officially inaugurated a new representative office in Guyana. The move aims to provide on-the-ground support for cross-border needs and connect clients to infrastructure and development projects within the country.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Guyana (AmCham Guyana) noted that Citi’s entry reflects increasing international confidence in the nation’s investment landscape. This follows a period of significant growth, with the Ministry of Finance reporting a 33.3% real GDP increase in the first half of 2026, largely driven by the oil and gas sector.
In a separate effort to diversify economic partnerships, President Irfaan Ali has invited Spanish and Latin American companies to invest in Guyana’s oil, mining, and infrastructure sectors. Speaking at the CEAPI business congress in Madrid, Ali encouraged investors to view Guyana as a strategic platform for growth rather than just a location for capital placement.
