Guyana breaks ground on fourth regional CLE law school

Guyana has officially broken ground on the fourth Council of Legal Education (CLE) law school, located at the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus. The ceremony, attended by Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Mohabir Anil Nandlall, marks a significant step in expanding legal education capacity across the Caribbean.

The eight-acre development is designed to address the growing demand and capacity constraints faced by existing regional law schools. While the institution is based in Guyana, officials emphasized that it is a regional facility intended to serve students from across the Caribbean rather than a national school.

In addition to the law school, there are plans for collaboration with the Caribbean Court of Justice to establish the CCJ Academy of Law on the same site. The project follows a formal endorsement by the CLE via the Bahamas Resolution in September 2025 and is part of a broader effort to establish specialized training facilities in Guyana, including sectors such as oil and gas, nursing, and hospitality.
