Guyana expands technical workforce for electric mobility
The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) has graduated its fifth cohort of 25 technicians specializing in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance and repair. This milestone brings the total number of trained individuals under the program to 102.
Training was conducted at the Mahaicony Technical and Vocational Training Centre (MTVTC). The initiative aims to build the local technical capacity required to support the country’s transition to electric and hybrid mobility, as more than 900 electric vehicles have already been imported into Guyana.
Dr. Alfred King, Permanent Secretary within the Office of the Prime Minister, emphasized that the growth in EV ownership must be supported by investments in people, specifically technicians capable of safely diagnosing faults and maintaining high-voltage systems.
