Guyana Fire Service recruits receive human trafficking detection training

Thirty recruits from the Guyana Fire Service have undergone specialized training designed to help them recognize signs of human trafficking, identify potential victims, and respond to suspected cases.

Organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Ministerial Task Force on Trafficking in Persons, the training took place at the Guyana Fire Service Training School in Leonora. The curriculum covered various forms of exploitation, indicators of trafficking, and the specific vulnerabilities of both adult and child victims. Participants also studied the legal framework provided by the Combating Trafficking in Persons Act No. 7 of 2023.

Led by officials including Inspector Marilyn Rodney of the Guyana Police Force’s Trafficking in Persons Unit, the program utilized case studies, role play, and group discussions to teach appropriate reporting and referral procedures using a human rights-based approach.
