Guyana GGMC expands services to encourage gold declaration
The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) is intensifying efforts to encourage miners to declare gold through authorized channels. To facilitate this, the commission is expanding its services by establishing additional offices in regions with high mining activity.
In areas where permanent offices are not feasible, GGMC officials are making arrangements to travel to mining communities on designated days to assist with declarations. The commission is also utilizing more than 30 licensed gold dealers and traders operating across various mining districts to provide miners with legitimate avenues for selling and declaring their gold.
Omkar Lochan, Policy Planning and Coordination Officer at the GGMC, stated that these measures aim to support Guyana’s gold declaration and foreign exchange earnings, as gold mining remains a critical pillar of the national economy. While urging miners to comply with the law, Lochan warned that those who breach regulations will face consequences.
