Guyana hosts International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup

Guyana has officially opened the second edition of the International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence. The tournament features 15 participating teams, including defending champions South Africa, as well as Australia, New Zealand, England, the United Arab Emirates, and the West Indies.

President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali pledged full government support for Guyana’s bid to host the Over-40s T20 World Cup in 2027. During his address, Ali emphasized that sports serve to build international relationships, fuse cultures, and bridge inequalities. He encouraged the athletes, many of whom are former international cricketers, to use the event to connect with professionals and explore the country’s culture.

The West Indies squad, captained by former international player Denesh Ramdin, includes notable former players such as Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jason Mohammed, Narsingh Deonarine, and Devendra Bishoo.
