Guyana leaders meet new World Bank Caribbean Director
Guyana’s President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh met with Achim Fock, the new World Bank Division Director for the Caribbean, to discuss ongoing development partnerships.
The discussions focused on cooperation in several critical sectors, including health, education, poverty reduction, housing, food security, and flood mitigation. The meetings also highlighted successful collaborative efforts such as the Guyana One Health project, the Caribbean Efficient and Green Buildings initiative, and the Integrated Transport Corridor project.
The World Bank’s current Country Partnership Framework for Guyana, which runs through 2026, involves a portfolio totaling US$312.87 million. This framework covers areas such as natural resource management, transport, renewable energy, and environmental resilience. The transition in leadership includes incoming World Bank Representative Juan Carlos Alvarez, who succeeds outgoing Representative Diletta Doretti.
