Guyana man dies after shooting during dispute at Beterverwagting supermarket

Kevon Benjamin, a 39-year-old resident of La Bonne Intention, died following a shooting at a commercial establishment in Beterverwagting, Guyana, on Saturday evening.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred around 5:45 PM at the Smiling Supermarket. A dispute reportedly arose between Benjamin and a 46-year-old security guard, Seon Moses, regarding the volume and selection of music being played outside the premises.

Police reports state that Benjamin allegedly approached Moses while armed with a hammer. Moses discharged a single round from a firearm, striking Benjamin in the lower abdomen. Benjamin was transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital for emergency surgery but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Authorities have taken Moses into custody and recovered the service weapon for forensic testing. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the scene to confirm the sequence of events.
