Guyana's Vice President calls for political collaboration
During a memorial event for the late former People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Herman Orlando Corbin, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo called for increased political collaboration between Guyana’s major rival parties. Jagdeo suggested that the nation’s socio-economic future requires the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and the PNCR to engage in dialogue to resolve long-standing national challenges.
Senior PNCR figures and parliamentarians have rejected the overture, dismissing the remarks as ceremonial political rhetoric. Opposition members emphasized that the party maintains its ideological independence and remains committed to its mission of unseating the current government, asserting that diplomatic courtesies during a period of national bereavement should not be interpreted as a move toward political realignment or merger.
