Guyana Police investigate armed robbery of Cuban nationals

Two Cuban laborers, aged 24 and 25, were victims of an armed robbery in the Eccles area on the East Bank of the Demerara River in Guyana. On Wednesday, October 14, around 7:00 p.m., two individuals on separate motorcycles approached the men and brandished a handgun. The assailants stole a cellular phone from the 24-year-old and a wallet containing cash and identification from the 25-year-old.

A 41-year-old local resident witnessed the crime and discharged several rounds from a licensed firearm at the suspects. One suspect, a 22-year-old male, was struck by gunfire and collapsed a short distance away after attempting to flee on his motorcycle. He was transported to Diamond Regional Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical treatment.

The second suspect escaped the scene and remains at large. Police recovered the victim's wallet near the injured suspect and are continuing investigations into both the robbery and the discharge of the firearm.
