Guyana Power and Light acquires Skeldon Energy Inc

Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has acquired Skeldon Energy Inc. (SEI) as part of a government initiative to consolidate energy sector operations and improve cost efficiencies. Following Cabinet approval, GPL acquired a 55.5 per cent shareholding in SEI from the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), adding to the 44.5 per cent stake GPL already held.

SEI operates a 10-megawatt (MW) generating engine that supplies electricity to the national grid. A GPL leadership delegation, including Management Committee Team Leader Kesh Nandlall, recently visited the facility to meet with SEI’s 49 employees.

Nandlall assured staff that no jobs will be lost during the transition. Instead, the acquisition is expected to provide opportunities for professional growth through training and upskilling in power generation, transmission, distribution, and administrative roles. GPL stated the move aims to maximize operational efficiencies and enhance the reliability of electricity services across Guyana.
