Guyana Revenue Authority reintroduces official badges for Customs Officers

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has reintroduced official identification badges for Customs Officers assigned to Customs, Excise, and Trade Operations. The initiative follows approximately two years of planning and was designed in accordance with international standards set by the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The GRA stated that the badges aim to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and public confidence. The move is also intended to combat fraud and illegal activities by individuals impersonating customs officials. As Guyana experiences rapid economic growth and increased visitor arrivals, the authority noted that officers serve as critical first points of contact at borders and ports of entry.

During a commissioning ceremony at GRA Headquarters, Commissioner-General Godfrey Statia distributed the badges and provided officers with guidelines regarding their proper use, handling, and care.
