Guyana sees tourism growth and record trade with the UK
Guyana is experiencing significant economic expansion driven by tourism and strengthened international trade relations. The country recorded over 271,000 visitor arrivals in the first seven months of 2026, with the government targeting 500,000 arrivals for the full year. This growth is creating increased demand across various sectors, including accommodation, domestic aviation, transport, and food services.
Simultaneously, trade between Guyana and the United Kingdom has reached record levels, exceeding £2.2 billion. British High Commissioner Joseph Fisher noted that Guyana is now the UK’s largest trading partner in the Commonwealth Caribbean, representing nearly 44 percent of the UK’s total trade with the region.
To support this momentum, UK Export Finance (UKEF) has made up to £3 billion available for eligible projects in Guyana. Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, highlighted that private sector credit in Guyana has more than doubled since December 2020, reflecting rapid growth in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and services.
