Guyana sends 44-member delegation to South American Games

Guyana has announced a 44-member delegation to compete in the XIII South American Games in Argentina. The event, scheduled from September 12 to 26, will take place across Rosario, Santa Fe, and Rafaela.

Guyanese athletes will participate in eight disciplines: athletics, archery, boxing, esports, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, and tennis. Notable participants include professional tennis player Sachia Vickery, who will make her debut representing Guyana. The delegation will be led by Chef de Mission Osafa Dos Santos.

The competition serves as a critical pathway for long-term athletic development. Several events offer qualification opportunities for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, contributing to Guyana’s broader preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Guyana Olympic Association President Godfrey Munroe noted that the diversity of the team reflects the growth of the nation’s high-performance sporting system.
