Guyana tourism businesses join Global Meaningful Travel Map

The Guyana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Industry & Commerce have announced that five Guyanese tourism businesses are now featured on the Tourism Cares’ Global Meaningful Travel Map. This inclusion is intended to increase international visibility for the nation’s sustainable travel, conservation, and community-led tourism initiatives.

The Global Meaningful Travel Map serves as a curated resource connecting the travel industry with vetted destinations and organizations that demonstrate a commitment to responsible tourism and community benefits.

The five recognized Impact Partners include:

• Iwokrama River Lodge: Located in the Iwokrama Forest, this lodge utilizes a community-centered conservation model where over 90% of staff are from nearby Indigenous communities. • Karanambu Lodge: A family-run eco-tourism lodge in the North Rupununi focused on wildlife conservation, including the rehabilitation of giant otters. • Caiman House Field Station: Situated in Yupukari Village, this station integrates accommodation with wildlife research and community development, supporting the Yupukari River Turtle Conservation Project.
