Guyana's Customs Anti‑Narcotics Unit records historic drug seizure totals

The Customs Anti‑Narcotics Unit (CANU) in Guyana reported seizing 519.49 kg of illicit drugs—including cannabis, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and ecstasy—along with 35 illegal firearms and 699 rounds of ammunition during the first six months of 2026. The haul represents a 272.4 % increase over the same period in 2025, with cocaine alone valued at roughly US$15.99 million and €12.79 million in European markets. CANU arrested 59 persons, charged 44 and secured 19 convictions.

CANU Director James G. Singh credited officers, community members and partner agencies such as the Guyana Revenue Authority for the record‑breaking results, saying, "The record‑breaking seizures we have achieved this year are a direct reflection of your sacrifice and commitment to protecting Guyana."
