Guzman y Gomez reports profit jump despite US market exit loss
Guzman y Gomez reported a 30% increase in underlying annual profit, reaching A$53.4 million, driven by strong growth in its Australian, Singaporean, and Japanese markets. Network sales in these regions rose 17.9% to A$1.4 billion.
However, the company recorded a statutory net loss of A$26.7 million due to a A$67.3 million cost associated with exiting the United States market. The decision to shutter its eight Chicago-based restaurants followed performance that failed to meet investment hurdles.
The company's Australian network grew to 255 locations during the fiscal year. Despite the US losses, the company declared a final dividend of 40.6 Australian cents per share and noted that delivery services now account for 27% of total sales.
