GVH middle management demands resignation of leadership
Middle management at Hungary’s Economic Competition Authority (GVH) has issued a formal demand for the resignation of President Csaba Rigó and his deputies. The letter, signed by seven members of the competition council and eleven professional middle managers, argues that the current leadership constitutes an obstacle to performing duties in the public interest.
The signatories stated that the legitimacy, authority, professionalism, and operational capacity of the GVH are at risk. Following the letter, Deputy President László Bak has reportedly indicated his intention to resign.
This internal crisis follows reports regarding increasing political influence within the GVH between 2010 and 2026. Critics suggest that political clientelism has led to a decline in professional standards, affecting how the authority handles decisions related to government-aligned companies and its internal communication and operations.
