Gwalior Police arrest 12 for displaying illegal weapons on social media
Gwalior Police have arrested 12 individuals as part of ‘Operation Eagle,’ a targeted crackdown on individuals using social media to showcase illegal weapons. The operation was launched following complaints regarding users posting videos, reels, and photos on platforms like Instagram to project a criminal image or engage in extortion.
Under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmveer Singh, joint teams from various police stations and the Crime Branch identified and apprehended the suspects within 24 hours. The arrested individuals, aged between 20 and 25, reportedly have existing criminal records.
Authorities seized 11 country-made pistols (315 bore), one 32 bore pistol, 18 live cartridges, and a vehicle. All suspects have been charged under the Arms Act. Police officials warned that they will continue to monitor social media and will take action against anyone displaying weapons, including licensed holders who misuse their firearms for social media content.
