Gwalior receives Italian machinery to clear 1.3 million tons of waste

A high-tech machine from Italy has arrived in Gwalior to address the long-standing issue of massive waste accumulation at the Kedarpur waste disposal center. The site currently holds approximately 1.3 million tons of accumulated waste, which has created environmental concerns and odor issues for local residents.

The Gwalior Municipal Corporation expects the machine to begin operations in October. The facility aims to process 1,200 tons of waste daily, split equally between 600 tons of new daily waste and 600 tons of the existing accumulated waste. This scientific approach will involve sorting and processing materials to reduce the size of the landfill piles.

Preparations are underway at the Kedarpur site, including the construction of a tin shed and platform. The municipal corporation also anticipates economic benefits, as new contract terms will shift the responsibility for electricity costs—previously totaling approximately 15 million rupees annually—to the contractor.
