Gwalior Super Specialty Hospital performs first kidney transplant in division

The Super Specialty Hospital in Gwalior has successfully performed the first kidney transplant in a government hospital within the Gwalior-Chambal division. The procedure, which lasted approximately six and a half hours, involved 60-year-old Krishna Kant Gupta, a resident of Chhatarpur, and his wife, Meena Gupta, who served as the donor.

The transplant was conducted by a specialist team from the hospital’s nephrology, anesthesia, and urology departments, with support from Dr. Vikas Jain, Head of Urology and Kidney Transplant at Manipal Hospital. The surgery was completed under the Ayushman Yojana scheme, providing the procedure free of charge to the patient.

To minimize the risk of infection, the hospital has provided a dedicated ICU with a separate air conditioning system, distinct from the building's centralized system. Both the patient and the donor are reported to be in stable condition and are under continuous medical supervision.
