Gwanak-gu develops AI automation program for administrative tasks

Gwanak-gu in Seoul has developed a customized administrative automation program using artificial intelligence. The project was driven by the ‘Innovation AI Club’, a voluntary research group formed by district employees in April.

After collecting approximately 30 ideas from staff regarding tasks to improve with AI, the group selected ‘Excel-based management automation’ as its first priority. Employees involved in the actual work participated in everything from planning to development, incorporating feedback from community center practitioners to analyze workflows.

The program automates tasks that were previously handled manually, such as managing community autonomy program schedules, collecting tuition fees, and managing registrants. By implementing these functions internally without external outsourcing, the district aims to reduce repetitive tasks, allowing staff to focus more on direct resident services and civil complaints.

The program is scheduled to be released on the ‘Gwanak AI Madang’ internal platform in October. The district continues to foster AI capabilities through education and contests, having already produced 15 certified ‘AI Champions’ by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety over the last two years.
