Gwanak-gu expands specialized recycling bag program
Gwanak-gu is continuing its specialized recycling bag distribution program to promote proper waste separation and resource circulation. This initiative, the only one of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts, has successfully increased the recycling sorting rate from 57.4% to 68.7% since its implementation in 2021.
This year, the program targets 62,180 households in single-family and multi-family houses built before 2010. Each household will receive 30 specialized bags, including 8 for transparent PET bottles, 8 for vinyl, and 14 for cans, bottles, plastics, and paper. Distribution is scheduled to take place in the Bongcheon and Namhyeon areas from September 7 to 16, followed by the Sillim area from October 1 to 14.
Residents in studio apartments or multi-unit housing not eligible for the bags can apply for recycling collection stands through their local community centers. The district is also implementing various other environmental policies, such as coffee ground and paper pack recycling, food waste reduction support, and campaigns to foster a resident-led recycling culture.
