Gwangju Education Office launches AI and semiconductor talent development program

The Gwangju Education Office announced a comprehensive AI and semiconductor future‑talent project aimed at supplying skilled researchers and technicians to the region's expanding high‑tech industry. The plan includes creating a Gwangju‑styled curriculum linking math, science, and semiconductor studies, establishing three gifted schools – an AI academy under GIST, an energy academy under KENTECH, and a new semiconductor high school – and converting more than 20 general high schools into AI‑science focus schools.

A Mini FAB semiconductor joint‑lab will provide hands‑on experience mirroring actual production lines. The initiative also proposes an education‑industry‑settlement “education‑local” strategy, offering special admissions for children of relocated corporate employees, expanding regional university recruitment, and providing year‑round childcare support for families. The program is positioned as a response to increased investment from Samsung, SK Hynix and other global players, seeking to keep locally trained talent in Gwangju and bolster the city’s standing as a hub for AI, semiconductor, energy, aerospace and related sectors.
