Gwangju prosecutor seeks prison term for taxi driver who abandoned intoxicated passenger
Prosecutors in Gwangju have requested a 1.5-year prison sentence for a taxi driver in his early 20s accused of abandoning an intoxicated passenger. The incident occurred in January when the driver left a passenger, who was experiencing vomiting symptoms, on the side of a 16-lane highway instead of the intended destination.
The passenger was reportedly in an unconscious state and sustained injuries while attempting to board another taxi. The incident led to a missing person search after the passenger's family reported them missing. During his final statement, the driver claimed he had called another taxi for the passenger and requested leniency. The driver also faces separate charges regarding the illegal lending of his identity and bank credentials for money.
The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on the following month.
