Gwangju Subway Line 2 rolling stock arrives at depot
The first rolling stock for Gwangju Subway Line 2 has arrived at the Yudeok depot, marking the beginning of the verification process for the new transit line. Under a project valued at approximately 91.7 billion won, Woojin Industrial Systems is responsible for manufacturing 33 train sets and 88 types of inspection equipment.
Between now and November, 17 train sets (comprising 34 cars) for the first phase of the line will be delivered sequentially. These light-rail vehicles utilize a rubber-tired system, with each two-car set designed to carry 153 passengers. Following delivery, the trains will undergo rigorous testing, including electrical, signal, and communication system integration. Initial performance tests will involve the first set traveling 2,500 km and subsequent mass-produced sets traveling 1,000 km on depot test tracks.
Mainline test runs are scheduled to begin in 2027 to ensure safety and compatibility with track and signaling infrastructure. While the first phase of Line 2 is now targeted for completion in December 2028, the city plans to hold a public event later this year to allow citizens to view the new trains at the depot.
