Gwangju to host 81st Liberation Day ceremony at Kim Dae-jung Center
The 81st Liberation Day commemorative ceremony will be held on August 15 at 10:00 AM at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju. This marks the first national commemorative event following the launch of the integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City.
Under the theme ‘A Greater Future Opened Together, Jeonnam-Gwangju United by the Power of Liberation,’ the event aims to honor the sacrifices of independence activists and celebrate the new beginning of the integrated city. Approximately 600 attendees, including Mayor Min Hyung-bae, City Council Chair Song Hyung-gon, Superintendent Kim Dae-jung, and descendants of independence activists, are expected to participate.
The ceremony will include an opening video, commemorative speeches, and a special performance by the Suncheon Municipal Children and Youth Choir. Additionally, 11 individuals will receive awards for their contributions to national and regional development and for upholding the spirit of independence. Prior to the main ceremony, a memorial service will take place at the Gwangju Independence Movement Monument in Sangmu Citizen Park.
