Gwangmyeong City seeks to host large-scale K-culture dome stadium

Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won is actively promoting the city's potential to host a large-scale, 50,000-seat sports and performance complex dome stadium. During a meeting with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Park emphasized that Gwangmyeong is an ideal location due to its superior transportation networks, including KTX Gwangmyeong Station and upcoming GTX lines, as well as its proximity to the Gwangmyeong-Siheung third-generation new city development area.

The city aims to integrate the dome stadium with the Gwangmyeong-Siheung Techno Valley to create an industrial ecosystem combining K-culture with advanced technologies like AI and XR. To support this vision, the city has established a dedicated task force and is conducting feasibility studies to prepare for the national competition scheduled to begin in October.

In a separate development, Mayor Park recently participated in a ceremonial first pitch at an SSG Landers and LG Twins baseball game following a business agreement with the SSG Landers organization to expand the baseball fanbase. However, local media reports have criticized the city's public relations department for failing to adequately coordinate press coverage for the event, despite its significance as the first professional baseball ceremonial pitch by a Gwangmyeong mayor.
