Gwangmyeong residents petition for Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line
Over 15,000 residents of Gwangmyeong City participated in a signature campaign calling for the construction of the Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line, a proposed 16.4km regional railway. The campaign, which ran from September 2 to September 18, exceeded the city's initial goal of 10,000 signatures.
The proposed line would connect Sincheon Station in Siheung to Seoul's Doksan and Sillim areas via the Gwangmyeong Siheung Third Generation New Town and Haan-dong. The project is viewed as essential to improving accessibility to southwestern Seoul and managing the expected surge in transportation demand resulting from large-scale urban developments, such as the Gwangmyeong Siheung Techno Valley.
Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won stated that the city will deliver the signatures to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and other relevant agencies in late September. The city is advocating for the line to be included in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan and is also pushing for a private investment model to expedite administrative procedures.
