Gwangyang Bay Area moves to implement secondary battery complex
Following the designation of the Gwangyang Bay Area as a national high-tech strategic industry specialized complex for secondary batteries, local officials and lawmakers are moving toward implementation. The complex spans six industrial complexes, covering approximately 21.32 million square meters.
The government projects private investment of approximately 5.37 trillion won through 2036. The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive industrial ecosystem focused on basic raw materials, core materials, and recycling.
To ensure progress, a permanent task force comprising the local government, assembly, and relevant corporations will be established to monitor investment progress and address corporate grievances. Efforts will also focus on expanding the participation of local small and medium-sized enterprises and fostering professional talent through partnerships with universities and research institutes.
