Gwangyang to install 50 solar street lights via private partnership

Gwangyang City has secured a donation project to install 50 eco-friendly solar street lights along the Dongcheon stream in Gwangyang-eup. The project, valued at approximately 410 million KRW, is a collaborative effort between LG Energy Solution and the Milal Welfare Foundation.

This initiative marks the first time a local government in South Korea has implemented such a project using specialized batteries developed by LG Energy Solution specifically for solar street lighting. These independent power systems store solar energy during the day to provide illumination at night without the need for external wiring. The specialized batteries are designed to maintain consistent brightness even during cloudy weather or adverse conditions.

The installation aims to address safety concerns in areas of the Dongcheon stream that have previously lacked sufficient nighttime lighting, improving the environment for residents who use the area for walking and exercise. Additionally, the project is expected to reduce power consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The city plans to complete all construction and lighting operations by mid-October.
