Gwent Police scraps transgender inclusion policy
Gwent Police has scrapped its Trans Inclusion Policy, which previously allowed transgender staff to use facilities corresponding with their identified gender from their first day of presenting in that gender. The decision follows a legal threat from the Women’s Rights Network (WRN), which had contacted police forces across the UK to review their transgender policies and workplace facilities.
The force stated the policy was scrapped on May 19, 2025, following a review in light of recent Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance regarding public spaces. Gwent Police indicated it is moving toward gender-neutral toilets and changing rooms, a practice already implemented at its headquarters. A revised draft of the policy is currently undergoing consultation with internal staff networks.
