GWM Australia introduces new diesel engine to target top-five brand goal

GWM Australia is introducing a new 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine to its lineup, featuring Bosch common-rail fuel injection. The engine produces 170kW and 620Nm of torque and will be featured in the Tank 500 off-road SUV and the Cannon Alpha ute.

Despite a significant rise in electric vehicle (EV) market share in Australia, GWM aims to use diesel technology to reach its goal of becoming a top-five automotive brand by 2027. John Kett, GWM Australia and New Zealand chief operating officer, noted that while the market is shifting toward plug-in hybrids, diesel still maintains a 70 to 75 per cent share in the body-on-frame and ute segments.
