GWM Australia targets top-five brand status via ute sales

GWM Australia has announced an ambitious goal to become a top-five automotive brand in the country. To achieve this, the company aims to reach monthly sales of 1,500 utes within approximately one year.

During the launch of the updated Cannon Alpha dual-cab ute and the Tank 500 large SUV, GWM Australia Chief Operating Officer John Kett stated that the company has implemented a diverse range of models to meet various consumer needs. The strategy includes offering multiple engine types, such as 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre turbo-diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrids, and a new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine designed to compete with established models like the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.

In August 2026, GWM ranked seventh on the sales chart with 4,870 monthly sales, surpassing Ford. To reach the top five, GWM must overtake competitors such as Hyundai and Mazda.
