GWM Haval H6 and BYD Song Plus Lead Brazil’s Hybrid SUV Segment

The Chinese automaker GWM launched the 2027 version of its Haval H6 SUV in Brazil, adding a hybrid‑flex powertrain that runs on gasoline and ethanol. The new 1.5‑litre turbo engine was developed locally and, together with a revised hybrid system, can reduce fuel consumption by up to 14 %. Prices range from R$199,900 to R$326,000, and the model is built at GWM’s Iracemápolis plant. Since its 2023 debut, the Haval H6 has been the best‑selling hybrid SUV in Brazil, staying ahead of other models priced above R$200 000.

BYD’s Song Plus, another Chinese‑made hybrid SUV, is priced at R$249,990 and competes directly with the Haval. The vehicle offers a spacious cabin, a 552‑litre boot and a 1.5‑litre turbo gasoline engine paired with an electric motor for a combined 239 hp. In tested conditions the Song Plus achieved 26.9 km/l in the city and 20.8 km/l on the highway, giving it an estimated 1,185 km range. Recent updates include a recalibrated suspension, a 12.3‑inch instrument panel and a 15.6‑inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both models are shaping the competitive landscape of Brazil’s high‑end hybrid SUV market.
