Gwyneth Paltrow explains origin of viral Goop candle
Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that the controversial “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle released by her wellness brand, Goop, originated as a joke.
During a podcast appearance, the actress explained that while working with creative director Douglas Little to develop an earthy fragrance using ingredients like tomato leaves and seaweed, she jokingly remarked, “Well, this smells like my vagina.” Little embraced the idea, leading to the viral product launch in 2020.
Paltrow clarified that the candle did not actually possess the scent suggested by the name; instead, it featured notes of bergamot, geranium, damask rose, cedar, and ambrette seeds. The success of the provocative naming convention led to other items in the line, such as “This Smells Like My Orgasm.”
