Gyanesh Kumar faces political controversy over remarks and past career

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is facing intense political scrutiny following controversial remarks by Mukesh Sahni, leader of the Vikas Sheel Insan Party (VIP). During a press conference in Patna, Sahni stated that if the constitution permitted a single murder, he would shoot Kumar. Sahni further accused the Election Commission of working for the BJP and undermining the constitution regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

Sahni’s comments have drawn sharp condemnation from BJP leaders, including MP Manoj Tiwari and Bihar ministers, who described the language as undemocratic and violent.

Separately, CPI(M) leader and former Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac has challenged Kumar’s administrative history. Isaac alleged that during Kumar’s tenure as a PWD Secretary in Kerala, he was involved in a controversy involving the suicide of a Malaysian engineer who reportedly named Kumar in a suicide note. Isaac also raised questions regarding Kumar’s subsequent career transitions and roles within central services.
